I have a 1978 mercury 1150. called the tower of power. I am replacing some parts and noticed a rubber tube coming from the head between spark plug #3 and #4. I followed the rubber hose to a pressure gauge on the dash. It doesn't work whatever it is. Anyone know what it may be ? IS this thing important that it works ?

water pressure ? are you sure ? if so, how do I check the gauge that it works? I can easily replace the rubber hose that goes to the dash with no problem.

Water pressure gauge for sure fbr4s. It monitors the waterpump pressure. Not essential but nice to have. Are you sure it's the gauge that doesn't work? Maybe your waterpump is old and defective and is not pumping enough water.

What is the PSI range of the gauge, 0-15 or 0-30?

The gauge is from 2 to 30 .. makes sense that it is water pressure .. I never seen it work, but there is water that shoots out the pee hole. Does anyone know how much pressure my impeller should produce?
