I have been having some overheating issues lately and have tried many things. One i have researched that it could be the pressure relief valve that could have been damaged while the engine overheated last year. I the thermostat, flow sensor, and head gasket replaced as well as painted the head as it got burnt pretty good. One website said after severe overheating all the above should be changed and i have never heard of a pressure relief valve. Where is it located on a 1991 suzuki DT85??? What does it look like? Is there any websites that could give me pictures or parts pages?? I hope to correct this overheating issue soon as the boats been out of the water and unhappy while the walleye are snickering and getting away.

Re: Pressure Relief Valves?????

I have a service manual and it was left at the cottage. Even though a service manual is helpful for maintanence, it sucks for troubleshooting and rarely explains how to repair what you have diagnosed.

My father said he has played enough with it and is bringing it in to a specialist. I never thought something that seemed so simple could be so frustrating. The water alarm still goes off and is overheating. I am still suspecting it is possibly the thermostat not functioning by opening and closing at the propor temperature, thus allowing hot water to circulate for too long. My dad had drove it for twenty minutes and checking the head by hand every now and then and finally shut it off when he noticed the paint starting to bubble on the head. Time to take it in to the shop.....we just need a running motor for the remaining season and will be trading it in for a new boat and four stroke at the spring boat show next year!!!
