Just recently I saw a great thread on here about rebuilding the old connectors. Now after searching over an hour, i can't find it. Does anyone else remember the thread and know how I can find it? Or point me to it?

Thanks,

I've never seen that thread, but here's my take: All there is to replace is the o-rings. Get BRP replacements, as Sierra's are a bit big. To remove orings, get a dental pick from hardware store and remove connector from line and find a location away from any fuel! Heat up the tip of the pick w/a candle and melt/burn through each o-ring in 4 spots splitting it into 5 rock hard pieces. Push the little plunger in w/a paperclip while holding the o-ring end of the connector toward the floor. A bit of shaking, and you'll have the o-ring pieces out, and simply grease up the new ones and slide 'em in. I have spent much time messing w/these until I heated the dental pick one time. I felt brilliant! haha.. Good luck!

Thanks,

I replaced mine this summer. I just pushed the plunger in and snagged them with a large bent paper clip, bent with a tight hook on the end I fished in...hooked them and pulled them right out no probs. I used the Seirra's and I agree with kbait that they seemed bigger but my tank holds pressure so I guess they are working.

OK, this is what I ended up doing, since I made the mistake of getting something jammed in the back end trying to pound out the brass from the back side.

I found that home depot sells 2 1/2" 4p hardened black finish nails. I ground the tip flat on a bench grinder, and 2 taps later I had everything apart. I used the Sierra ones, since I bought them a month or two ago and had them around.

The connector works great. As a bonus, I found another spare connector at a garage sale with good o-rings for the tidy sum of $1.

Re: Pressure Tank Motor Connector Rebuild

So, after 2 1/2 years of fighting with the Sierra o-rings to connect and un-connect my fuel line from the motor, they finally failed on both tanks. I think the ethenol in the fuel ate them up, as they were crumbling and started to leak. Mostly the Fuel side leaked, not the Air side. I was able to find some BRP o-rings locally and put them in using a home made jig, which consisted of a 5/8" hole bored a little ways into a 2x4 block. I redid two connectors for both my tanks, and it took about 10 minutes. Just aline the brass over the hole, shove a nail into the back of the connector, and give it a firm rap with a hammer. Everything pops out, you replace the o-ring, and then tap it back into the fitting. Easier and faster to do than describe.

The REAL surprise to me was how easy it now is to make the connection on the motor now!! It goes on like butter, and comes off just as easy. It used to be such a fight, I never realized how much I hated it until I got these new o-rings installed! If you have to fight yours onto the motor, I HIGHLY reccommend replacing them with the BRP parts at $1.81 each. Part number 301824 (sometimes listed as 0301824).

I happen to have the orginal jig laying in one of my tool boxes built by OMC but after looking at F_R's that will work just fine.

Yes, I knew about that and was planning to order it, but wanted to get this done. My makeshift jig seemed to work fine in a pinch. The hardest thing to do is find a pin the right size and hard enough to knock out the brass plugs, and the hardend nail seems to be perfect for it. F_R's jig comes with a tool for it also, and also a spot to store it where you won't lose it. It is a real work of art.
