pressurized gas tanks ?

I am asking about a new 2008 5.0gxi fuel system. Is the fuel tank pressurized or does it have a overflow like the old systems. This came up when I went to fill the tank for winter, how full can I fill the tank? Back a few years with the over flow on the fuel tank if you filled to the overflow and then let the boat sit in the sun the gas would expand and come out the over flow. So now with the new systems if you fill to the top what happens to the gas as it warms up and expands?

No, the fuel tank is not pressureized. The tanks are made the same as in the past. Fill, Vent, and Pickup fittings. Nothing special.
There is no such thing as an overflow, even on the older models. There is a vent fitting that would allow fuel to vent overboard as the gas expanded and you had the tank to full......... Todays tanks are exactly the same.

Ayuh,...

Back a few years,... We could allow an Overflow....
Today,... That's Gold running down the side of that boat.....
But,...
It's Always been called the fuel tank Vent.......

Btw,....
Last year I finally got around to installing the Whistles in the fuel tank vent lines,....
I haven't spilled a Drop since,.... Love'em....;)

Google search "fuel whistle"

It is a device that installs in the vent line, near the tank. During filling, air is displaced through the vent, causing this device to histle. When the whistling stops, (gas in the line, not air) shut off the pump and pay the attendant.

Thanks for the reply :) But I do have one more question, there is no vent on the outside of the boat, so where does it vent to?

Dave Lee

ps the boat is put away for the winter or I would find it myself.

You DO have an external vent, however, it may be built into the fill cap. There are a number of different ways to vent and fill, buy many different manufacturers. Pictures of you fill cap (opened and closed) will help in figuring out wht you have.
