So on my 1967 Chris Craft with twin 283's the distributors are looking rough and i would like to find the best replacement. Anyone deal with this lately.

You may have to switch to electric tachometers. Mallory would be a good source.
Finding a new pair of mechanical tachometer drive distributors could be expensive.

first, service your points.

a bit of TLC and you can use what you have for about $50 (rebuilding your dizzys and new points)

or you can add electronic triggers to replace the points for about $100 per dizzy

or you need to buy new tachs and dizzys (expect to pay $500 each for the dizzys and about $200 each for tachs)

New marine mechanical tach drive dizzys are non-existant, however you can get custom made ones that are about $1500 each.

Both port and starboard distributors have been converted to Ignitor 2 see pic. But seems like a lot of corrosion and a no spark condition on port side. I am looking for reliability. So with that said is the Mallory what others are turning too? Also i suppose items needed would be new distributor, tach and possibly new coil!

If the centrifugal advance is working smoothly in both distributors why not just buy a new pair of Prestolite Ignitors then you would have a spare.

agreed, take the dizzy apart, clean the parts, replace the bushsings (napa, about $5 each) re-assemble and will be good to go

Kenny when I removed the cap and forced the action on the advance it felt rough. Also everything i have read is the springs and weights and what ever else use to be available are now obsolete. When i aquired the boat last fall starboard ran good but the port only ran good at idle and would run rough while under way. Then a few days ago i tried to get the port running while on trailer and i found spark to the cap but nothing to plugs. So i am not the greatest mechanic but i am trying to make the boat reliable. Also when swapping the ignitor from starboard to port one of the tabs that you mount the ignitor plate to broke off due to corrosion.

there are a few distributor repair shops

I was lucky growing up, friend of the family owned a hot rod shop that was also a distributor service shop prior to his passing in the mid 90s.

The flat style distributor may not be available but the later style used on OMC and Volvo will fit. The internal parts should also be available from Crowley Marine who stocks obsolete OMC parts. Give it a try before you give up. Chrysler used Prestolite distributors on their auto and marine engines also.

How about the Mallory RA107039M looks like a replacement for the IBM-4115 Prestolite. Does anyone have any knowledge on this particular mallory distributor being used in the mid 60's 283F marine engine?
