Hello, I have an opportunity to buy a 1985 15 hp johnson for $200.
The motor supposedly runs like a champ, but he bent the gasket that seals the prop while he was replacing the gasket.

What should I look for in regards to this?

Is it worth a go?

Get a compression check, cylinders should be within 10% of each other. Get the seller to run it either on the boat or on muffs to find out for yourself how well it runs.

Do you mean the Prop Seals?

Run motor in barrel to verify - Runs/idles smoothly and shifts properly.
Compression test to verify cylinder balance.

If purchased, replace Prop Seals, gear caes oil and fill/vent seals.

I found, if the proper tool is not available a proper sized iron pipe longer than the prop shaft works well to install them.

good price if all else is OK. Be sure to check your shaft length for your boat
