Price of prop rebuild

I started looking around to get an idea of what it would take to repair the "beaver bites" in my aluminum prop and replace the hub. I was shocked to see that the price of repair can be more than the price of a replacement prop here on iboats. Prices vary from one shop to the next. For example, to replace the hub, one shop wanted $90 and another wanted $65. To perform weld repairs, one shop quoted $80 and the other one said they would need to see it first to make an estimate.

Just wondering if these prices are normal or higher than other areas.

seems kinda high for a hub replace, but it depends on the prop. Also without knowing what is wrong with your prop it could be high or not. I use these guys.

I have an I/O and the prop for mine runs on Iboats 97 dollars and up. I think if I had to have a hub replaced I would just buy new if it were me. Again depends on the prop.

Guess I should mentioned the type. Prop is for a 130hp engine attached to a Volvo AQ280 outdrive (these are NOT a thru hub exhaust).

I got bit on a prop repair. It cost me around $90 for 3 blade AL 13.75x15 whick I could have bought new for not much more. The shop rehubbed the prop without my knowledge or request. Didn't have any problems with the prop other than some little digs. I felt like I was had on this one so before I send out another one I will state if there are going to replace the hub DO NOT do anything I'll just get a new one.

The last prop I sent out for repair needed a slight straightening and a new hub, they charged me $65 but that was a few years ago.
A new prop was about double from the dealer then.
I did finally go for a new prop as for some reason that used prop wouldn't hold a bushing. The replacement prop, new at the time, lasted till I sold the boat and motor.
With eBay and other sources like iBoats here, I can see where it may not be worth fixing an old prop unless you can do it yourself.

My prop is 14-7/8 by 21 and they charged me 60 bucks to put a new hub in. Be careful when getting welding done, some places will just grind down your props ragged edge and that kills your performance.

Getting quite an education here. I was assuming that hub replacement was a normal part of replacement - guess it's one of those things that's only needed when it's needed. I'm thinking that I'll just look around for a used prop at some of the local shops before I decide what to do. Funny thing is, the prop is really too small but should be just the right size for trolling while using a trolling plate.
