That price is a bit high, but to be fair, if you have lived 47 years without glasses, you have plenty to be thankful for.

Walmart or the discounters as other's have stated, or there are some Interned sites, where you can send in a script (and one other measurement)and get frames/lenes, for like $65. You will have to bend them around a bit, to fit yourself.

Re: Price shock

Back when Ray-Ban "Wayfarer" sunglasses were in, I noticed that the $150 frames at the eye doctor, looked EXACTLY, like the ones at the drugstore, for $35. (1987)

Just asked if they could put lenses in my "current" Ray-Ban frames. Said they would but could not guarentee that they would not break (since the plastic rims need to be heated to install the lens). Sent in the frames and had script lens put in. (they would have to heat the $150 frames too)

Even though I'm much more blind, the Ray-Bans are still as solid as ever, hiding somewhere in the garage.

Re: Price shock

I spent about $400 on my new set of sunglasses. the doctor did talk me out of getting a new set of regular eye glasses. He said, your eyes changed a little, but you dont "need" new glasses, so I just bought a set of sunglasses instead. I got the polarized lenses so I had to get the more expensive lense. They are the nices sunglasses I have ever owned. and no more clip ons!!

Re: Price shock

My eyes starting going bad about a year and a half ago. I'm 48 now. I went to eye doctor just to make sure there wasn't anything serious. She told me I needed a glass strength of 1.5. Not sure what it all means. Anyway I went to our local pharmacy and picked up 4 pairs of 1.5 strength glasses for 1 dollar each. I keep a pair at work, one in my tool box, one next to the toilet,(cause that's where I keep my stack of marine parts catalogues), and one next to the computer. I will not spend all that money just to read. I can still see distances. These eye glass stores charge way too much.
