for a 16 year old boat it looks really clean. negotiate the price, the boat market is a buyers market.

I have no idea on that boat at that location. But, if you want to roll the dice on it offer them $4800.00 and then let them stew on that price. Boats are not selling well in most places.

People can ask anything for a used boat, you can offer anything for a used boat.

It's only about 45 minutes away from me, I'd go look at it in person if you were really interested.

while i agree that 4800 is a better price offering 4000 under what he is asking might just tick him off

The boat books out at about $4600. It looks like it being sold at a dealer so who cares if you tick them off. It's a buyers market

Well, Great Escape didn't use NADA, obviously. Cause in there with the trailer, it books 5600 with the trailer in average retail, and $6600 at high retail.

Whatever book you want to use, it's way overpriced at the dealer, of course.

That does look like a nice boat! I'd pay up to $6k for it if it's as good as it looks (if I was in the market for one) but I'd start closer to $4600 or so.

it's much better to pay a bit more for a super condition boat when buying used, IMO.

Yes,,, but after the 10th time you call (over the course of 2 months) he might just sell it to you because he's tired of looking at it and no one else is interested.

I heard (story of a friend, of a friend, of a friend...) that this guy would go out low balling people, offering 20-30% of their price, most would laugh at his face. He would call back every week and a few of the people were so desperate for cash, they took it his low offer.

In this economy I bet there are many people trying to unload their boat (toy), looking for quick cash, one less payment, no storage fees, cancel insurance...

Re: Priced to high?

At a dealer, they're out of whack on pricing to offer you a 'too good to be true' discount.

I looked at a boat last year for $6000. After 10 mins of talking to the sales guy he said that if I offered $3500 to the sales manager that he thought they'd take it to move the boat quickly. Boat was worth about $2000-2500 and I'm sure they would've taken that offer too but it needed a bit more work than I wanted to invest.

They just want you to feel like you've stolen it from them. Offer a ridiculously low price. Worst they can do is negotiate because they don't want to spend months sitting on it.
