hello i have been fighting a high speed miss for a while now with my 60 horse 1989 johnson. its does not miss all the time but when it does it falls flat on its ---. i put new coils and power pack on it with no help. i just took it to a different repair shop and they called and said that the primer was in the wrong postion. would this cause a high speed miss? i thought it would not run if it was in the wrong postion? they said it was flooding the motor out. it was running good except for the high speed miss. thanks

also was smoking pretty bad at trolling speeds. i think i had the red lever pushed all the way up would that cause the miss at high speed?

If you had the primer lever in the wrong position this could cause the mtr to run rich which will foul out the plugs which will give you a high speed miss.

would it be a bad enough to seem like all the clyinders are not firing at once? it would only do it at full throttle. i was thinking bad stator or timer base. the primer lever was not in line with the solenoid. it was pointed off to the side.

If the "red" valve was in the 6 o'clock position in relation to the soleniod it was is the correct "run" postion. If it was 45 degrees away from this position it was in the manual prime mode. These valves are notorious for cracking which would cause a possible run problem.
