primer valve question

i have a 1996 evinrude 150 motor what position should the red handle on the primer be in
when the engine is running.

The red lever is for manual operation of the valve.----For running it should be inline with the valve body.

Turn it as far as it will go clockwise.

There's usually a label on the silencer showing how the valve is to be oriented. Look for that.

But the same primer valve was installed on many motors from 9.9 to 250 hp from about 1980 to the last models in 2007.---The very same valve and a much misunderstood item it is !

No, it isn't the same motor, but they put the sticker on all of them.
