Visited a local West Marine and they showed me the Pro-Pulse 4 blade model.

My 17' Tracker has a 60 hp Merc. Pro-Pulse Variable pitch from 12-16 deg. following the Mercury select a prop function on their website, their reccomendation is a 12 deg. prop.

Any opinions on the Pro-Pulse?

Re: Pro-Pulse prop

Pitch is measured in inches. We assume thats what youre trying to calculate. Rake is measured in degrees but thats not what folks normally try to change.

Re: Pro-Pulse prop

Hi,
http://www.propulse.se/english/index.html

I guess the art nr is 6902 in Your case and
Diameter x Pitch is then: 10,4" x 12-16"

In general, what I have read in tests where ProPulse has been compared against aluminium and steel props it has not performed that well regarding the top speed. Maybe because of the slight flexing of the composite blades compared to aluminium or steel props? But tests have proved ProPulse to be stronger than standard aluminium props. It does not mean it is a bad prop, it has a lot of other advantages.
So unless You are seeking absolute top performance it will be just fine, it will give You good acceleration and good cruise speed when adjusted to Your taste.
At ProPulse FAQ section it is described what correct pitch may be:

"What pitch is correct?
At full power your engine should run at a particular rpm range (see instruction Manual for engine) it is harmful to run the engine above or below the recommended range. If maximum rpm are too high or low, adjust the pitch until the correct setting has been achieved.
To increase by 200rpm – Reduce the pitch by one increment
To decrease by 200rpm – Increase the pitch by one increment"

Re: Pro-Pulse prop

Bo - thanks for the info. Apparently, loss of top end speed is from the drag of the fourth blade, but your hole shot is much better (according to the literature). Not worried about maximizing top end speed, would like to have the low end for pulling a tube or an occasional wakeboarder.

Would drilling holes in an aluminum prop increase my hole shot performance?

DHadley - thanks for the correction. What is the rake.

Rake is basically the angle that the blade is in relation to the hub compared front to back.
