#1 Are NGK BR8HS-10 and NGK B8HS-10 plugs the same ? NGK says the "R"
plug for my '89 Yammie but when I went to parts store they tried to give me the other plug saying it was OK. They also had a Champion # 5883 . They said was a " premium marine " version of the QL78C. Which do you recommend?

#2 Boat steers fine at low RPM's but as you get faster it becomes harder, above 4500 wants to turn right and at WOT very hard to turn left and you better hang to the wheel or it will make a adbrupt right turn. Does this sound like engine torque? Its a Detmar  dual cable R&P.
Thanks

Re: Pro-V 150 Two Questions

on a 150 you should at least have anti feedback steering system.

i would recommend hydrolyc steering system.

that will help you out.

on the spark plugs use the ones that Yamaha tells you to use and nothing else.

Re: Pro-V 150 Two Questions

the R is a carbon resistor plug, I dont use the champion Q series as they are an inductive resistor plug and not called out by yamaha.
its ok to change from B8?s to BR8 but not the other way around.
try moving you trim tab to the right(direction of pull) and retest.
I scrapped by dual cable R&P setup for a side mounted K series hydrualic and love it.
175 E-TEC on an 18 hyrdrasports fish and ski.
my F150 on a 22 seapro CC with a tower and second station runs a seastar front mount 4558 series hydrualic.
initial expense is tough but its a smoother setup.

Re: Pro-V 150 Two Questions

OK thanks guys, i just wondered about the plugs, as for the steering, tab had been moved and didn't help. Think I'll take a look at a new steering system. Good buddy I'm going to deer camp this week with is a rep for a major marine parts wholesaler, he said that they had a few Detmar cables in the wharehouse and may be able replace them but if not he's going hook me up with a all new system
thanks again

Re: Pro-V 150 Two Questions

best thing I ever did was ditch the twin cable detmar.
didnt work with either of the 115 nor the 140, didnt even wish to try with the 175.
occasionally steering torque would lock the helm up unless I grabbed it with both hands and forced it.
usually turning left and applying power running up the Ditch.
as the ditch is winding and only about 20 ft wide and maybe 3ft deep not only did you have to keep it on plane but ya had to negotiate the curves.
