You don't know if you don't ask right? My 28 hp Envinrude on our pontoon is the first outboard I've ever owned. I have ridden 2 -stroke dirt bikes/atv's my entire life and a bunch of 2-stroke pre-mix oil on the shelf. Everything from Klotz Benol to Honda HP2 to Golden Spectrol. Since I have an abundance of this oil could it also be used in my old evinrude? I was just going to run it but thought I better check on here first.

The Two Cycle Water Cooled (TCW) motors like special oil, in comparison to the air cooled two cycle motor you have been used to. The proper oil is TCW-III for your motor.

If you want to burn up some of that air cooled motor oil, I really won't hurt the OB, but you may get some build up of carbon.

No it probably won't hurt it but oil is pennies compared to repair/replacement
of a outboard. Why chance it? Use the correct oil.

++++1 w/Chris. Non-outboard 2 stroke oil is very high in ash content to help lubricate high reving air-cooled engines. An outboard does not get hot enough to burn the ash and it builds up in your cylinders. I would not recommend it but it would probably just load up really bad if you ran cycle oil in an outboard. Most definately don't go the other way, you'll burn a saw or bike up in a hurry.

Just to clarify the two stroke bikes that I run are liquid cooled but i see what your saying. They surley spin a lot faster! I don't get to ride much anymore so this oil is just sitting on the shelf so while mixing the last tank of gas for the evinrude I got to thinking.....

There are no dumb questions............only dumb answers. lol

Not saying any of the answers you have gotten are dumb.

I understand what your saying though. All that two stroke oil sitting there and you have to go out and buy more for your boat. As you know, bikes and saws turn higher rpms and thus blow out carbon. Outboards do run vrey quickly but they aren't able to expell carbon as effeciently so your cylinders will load up and you will eventually have performance troubles and will be doing a decarb.
