Re: Probably a stupid I/O Mercruiser Trans Question
Yes I did and the transmission does work. It goes clunk and engages both ways. Would the "transmission" be where the spinning shift cable goes into? I would assume so. I will have too look. I can't work on the boat again till Saturday. Hopefully I will have it in the water on monday.
This boat has been the most daunting task I have ever taken on. When I first got it it had 30 gallons of bad gas, then 3 expansion plugs popped (I thought I was Sh** out of luck after that), one exhaust manifold cracked. So I replaced the exhaust manifold and the expansion plugs. Then the usuall fun of starting a engine that sat for 4 years. It fored up with a little starter fluid and purred. Didnt even smoke at all. Then it wouldn't go into gear until I gave the shift mechanism a little love tap. Then the tilt wouldnt work.... I filled it back up with fluid and greased the rams with some dow33 (amazing all purpose grease). Then had my wife hit down while I jumped up and down on the drive. Then I did an oil change and was relieved that cruddy black oil came out, but no signs of water. Today I topped off the power steering and tilt fluid. Saturday it will be getting a battery, drive unit fluid change and transmission fluid change. It should be seaworthy after that I think. The good thing is I have learned so much about boats while restoring this monster.
I also got the 15HP trolling motor running today!
