are Johnson and Evinrude motors identical in mechanical terms and electrical. I just bought a manual on C.D from eBay for my 71 100hp Evinrude but I have received a Johnson manual. It covers my years but just want to double check before i start work on my electrical system etc.

thanks for the input... greatly appreciated. has anyone else have any ideas on this mater as well. I am hoping that the only difference is the engine covers and cosmetics that were different. just a little stressed to start on motor as it was advertised Evinrude and I got Johnson. Mainly also before I leave feed back and know whether to chase him up in case I do need a different manual.

Johnson and Evinrude were both made by the same company, Outboard Marine Co and shared almost all mechanical and electrical parts. Difference was typically just colors and labels. OMC was acquired by BRP ~ 2000. Only one shop manual was produced to serve for both brands (my Dad was an OMC dealer in the 70's through the '90s). All parts for both motors were branded "OMC".
