I have a 1976 Bayliner Skagit 2250 with a 1976 VP280 outdrive. The reason I am specific about the year is that some of the parts on the VP280 outdrive schematic must be newer and are not the ones on this years o/d.
Specifically, the outdrive motor is not a two pigtail connector one but has an AB Electrolux motor with a 4 pin connector built into the housing.
Nothing would work at all so I replaced the fuse, limit switch in the relay and had the drive motor rebuilt by a professional motor re-builder.
Here's the problem. When you actuate the dash switch the motor turns and if you look at the drive from the outside, there's a piston that pushes against the drive, unlocking the latch but doesn't push down any farther. If I hold up the drive, the piston keeps coming down and when I let go of the drive, it will stay up. When I use the switch at the dash to bring it down, the piston retracts and the drive comes down.
What is the problem and why can't I get it to come up? (Man, did I leave myself open or what.)
