Im a new boat owner with a 1995 evinrude 88 spl. The motor hadn't been run for a year and it was not getting any power. Changed the fuel and added octane booster and motor ran fine for 3 days. Now motor will lose power when going at full throttle. I changed the plugs and cleaned the carbs. I also adjusted the rods to the throttle and idle. after this i took it back out and realized i adjusted the rods to the point i couldn't reach full throttle. motor still acts like it is starving for fuel. did i screw up by messing with the rods to the throttle and idle?

firecheese,

If you tinkered with the idle adjustment and/or timing rods, you have a problem. You will need to do a complete synch/link procedure.

It's far to complicated to go into here. You need a manual.

The most common source of low power concerns is dirty carb. jets. Unless you COMPLETELY dismantled the carbs. you mave to go back into them with complete kits.

By the way, lose the octane booster. It's more of a detriment to outboards than an enhancement.

No the bulb does not stay tight at full throttle. Are the timing rods the same as the ones hooked to the throttle and idle? Could i have possibly messed up a piston by running it after i adjusted them?
