Problem with flush port on 50 E-TEC?

Took the boat out today and put a couple of incident free hours on her. When I got back and hooked the hose up to the flush port it sounded like water was spraying under the cowling. Sure enough I took the cowling off and water was spraying from somewhere in the vicinity of the flush port. It's way down in there and I can't see much. I'm going to take it to my dealer Tuesday. I hope there wasn't salt water spraying under my cowling today. I don't see any salt deposits on anything, so maybe the flush port is separated from the cooling system somehow?

PS I had plenty of water pressure when running today.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Re: Problem with flush port on 50 E-TEC?

If you used a hardware store garden hose quick disconnect or a hose with a very small inner diameter, you probably pushed the water outlet inside the cowling when you screwed the hose on.
Now you get the water spray inside the motor.

The only quick-disconnect to use is the factory one or the T-H brand that has the large inner diameter to fit over the water outlet pipe.

You have to remove the port side cover to access the water outlet and reinsert it in position.

Of course, it may just be a clamp that let go or is not tightened fully, in which case it is a warranty situation which your dealer can fix quickly.

Re: Problem with flush port on 50 E-TEC?

Thanks Seahorse. When I got the motor I made a piece of hose about 8 inches long to connect to the motor then I hook the hose from the house to it. It's a good size hose probably 5/8", but I do have lots of water pressure at my house. I started to take the cover off, but didn't have the right socket and extension to get the last fastener out, right under the steering arm:|. I got a better light to shine down in there and it does appear that there may be a clamp off right where the flush port comes through the cover. I'll swing it by the dealer in the next couple days and have him walk out and take a peak.
