Problem with FM reception

I have an 8' FM antenna on the boat. The reception is great and I've never had an issue picking up stations in the area. Friday I backed the boat into the drive to clean it up for an upcoming charity event.

While I was up cleaning the top I noticed that any time I got close to the anntena or the cable I ltotally lost the reception. I mean like someone pulled the plug. Any ideas whats wrong?

Thats normal...

Your body is blocking the signal or detuning the antenna due to you being near it.

Try this, find another strong local station and see what it does. The farther away the station your trying to hear the more your going to notice this.

The only way to really solve that is if the entire length of the antenna was above your head, and also boats are very poor ground planes on land, on the water is a different matter.
