1972 Johnson 85hp

Motor was cranking fine, had spark, everything was good.

All of the sudden, it stopped. Now it will not crank at all, and when I jump it with the key on, I have no spark. I checked it with a volt meter, I am getting 13v to one side of the selenoid and 0 to the otherside. Thought the selenoid was bad, so I replaced it. Still nothing.

I hope Joe Reeves is reading this.

Nathan,

I'm a bit confused. Does it still crank over, but no spark?

If so, you may have a blown fuse, ususally somewhere under the hood.

Re: Problem with Johnson

I guess it was a freak deal, because when I wnt back outside, it started right up.

The problem that I was having, was that it would not do anything when I would turn the key.

Re: Problem with Johnson

Nathan I had the same problem on a 1967 80 hp Johnson. The hot wire comes from the ignition switch to one of the small terminals on the solenoid and the other small terminal on the solenoid goes to ground, mine passes through the safety switch (mine was bad) and I was not getting a ground.
