I have a 1978 evinrude 25 hp and am having a problem with only getting spark on my bottom plug. I changed the coil on the top plug thinking that was the problem. well it wasnt. i got to talking to some ppl and they said it could be the brain box. How would you go about testing that and is there maybe something else it could be? thanks for all info posted

well...the free stuff is to clean the ground connection on that upper coil as well as making sure the connections in the amphenol plugs are clean and tight...beyond that, the powerpack is the likely culprit..cdi electronics has the testing procedures on their website, but that requires a dva meter or a dva adapter for your multimeter unless your multimeter is already equipped with one

The power pack and coil are really the only things that will cause it. The sensor and wiring affect both cylinders, not just one.

well, the problem stayed with the cylinder, so it is the power pack.

Points make sense. CD boxes are voodoo! Nice when they're workin' though. :)

There is no voodoo in electricity. God invented it. We just learned how to use it.
