What would cause the starter gear to stay ingaged with the flywheel after it starts. Gear doesn't disengage. After I stop motor if you tap on it or try to screw it back down it'll let loose and go back down.
sounds like a bad starter drive. when the drive gets old the return spring gets weak and does not allow the gear to dis- engage also try to put some lubricant on the gear shaft, it might allow the gear to return
