Hello

I have some problems with my Suzuki and I hope
someone can give me some hints.

The previous owner had problem with water coming
in a sylinder, he had it in a workshop,
and they changed the lower crankshaft seals.
That cured water to come into the syllinder.

But it still would not run properly.

Then i bought it.

The symtons now are:

Won't run properly on idle, it dies off, puffs.
The "puffing" is thru exhaust. not carbs.

When driving boat just over 1000rpm, engine runs
just fine. But some odd time on speeding up
engine dies off. But usualy not. Runs good at ca. 5500- 5600 rpm max.

Have changed plugs, cleaned carbs. replaced top crankshaft sealing.

On idle I can disconnect the 2 top spark plugs
and it runs just the same.

I hope some one can help me.

Best Regards

Kim Berntsen

Re: Problems with 1991 Suzuki DT 100

Sounds like it's lean at idle. I just finished up a 4-cyl Suz 115 that had a similar problem, ran great but wouldn't idle.

I removed the airbox cover for better access to the idle air bleed screws. After some tweaking of the idle mixture, managed to at least get it to idle but it kept popping.

Narrowed the problem down to #3. Put my fingers over the carb's throat to block it off (thus sucking more fuel up from the float bowl), and it started running better.

Removed the idle bleed screw, blew the passages out with Searoam "Deep Creep" spray and compressed air, and it fixed the problem.

Don't forget, as is indicated on the airbox, the idle screws are air bleeds and you richen them up by screwing them in (CW); leaner is CCW.

You might try the same thing by partially blocking off the carb to see what happens. Or just spray some fuel/oil premix into the throat of the carb and see if it speeds up.

Also make sure that the (2) cyl's that are dead at idle are getting spark. Put an inductive timing light or firing indicator tool on the spark plug wires while it's running to check the spark.

The idle passages on these carbs are pretty small, so make sure you've blown them out thoroughly.

HTH and Good Luck........ed
