Just wondering if anyone has had problems with the '99 or '00 200hp FICHT engine. If so,I would like to know what type of problems and any solutions to preventing them.
Thanks, Worried Owner

Re: PROBLEMS WITH 200hp FICHT EVINRUDE

The 200 (and 225) Ficht have been pretty good motors, nowhere near the problems the early 150/175's had with powerhead problems. There is currently a safety recall issued on the '99 and '00 200/225 Evinrude Fichts. There is a possibility some injector retaining hardware (bolts) could fail and there is the potential for a fuel leak. Bombardier is covering a repair parts kit and installation of the kit at no cost to owners. If you're the original registered owner, you should have received notification via certified mail sometime between last April to June. If you didn't receive notice, or if you're the second owner and are unsure if the recall stuff was taken care of - a competent, qualified dealer can do a quick visual inspection and determine if the hardware was changed. If not, kit part number 5004550 should be ordered and the engine should not be used until this is installed. The parts this kit uses were incorporated into production with the '01 model year motors and to my knowledge there have been no related problem with the '01 and '02 models.

-John

Scruffage,

Take what John says on this subject as gospel. He's very knowledgeable about John/Rude issues and always shot straight on this board.

Re: PROBLEMS WITH 200hp FICHT EVINRUDE

I got one for you guys to ponder. I'm a lake patrol officer in Texas. I am running a 2002 Evinrude 200 w/ Ficht. My motor has developed a problem over the past several weeks. If I shut down after running for a while the motor will not restart. When I turn the key on I get the chrip from the warning system, all lights on the tach come on and go off in sequence as they should. (Here comes the problem). The "check engine","hot", "no oil" lights come on. I can not get it to start for close to 10 min. It will not turn over, click or anything. Our local shop has put the engine on the computer. No codes, does not show overheating at all. The motor is sucking oil from the external tank. I have not had any warnings from the system like no oil. The SLOW system has not come on. I have checked the water line to the computer. It is unobstructed from the supply, thru the computer and the return line.I have beat my head on the perverbial brick wall. Help is appreciated. That brick wall tends to hurt a little after a while. LOL

Watercop,

Don't hijack an 8 year old thread. Start a new post, but your motor has an intermittent EMM and you can either buy a high-buck version through a dealer or contact the folks at dfitechnologies.com for a repair quote. It's a known problem.
