Hey guys, I have a Minn Kota 30lb thrust 12V transom mount trolling motor and have lately been having issues with it. I took it out a while back and it ran like a champ and then all of a sudden it just started slowing down and ultimately died. I tested the battery and it was fine, so I took it home and left it in the garage for a while.
I opened it up last night and all seemed to be OK. There wasn't any corrosion or anything, and all of the wires and the inside were in excellent like-new condition. I took off the prop and it had a little bit of fishing line wound around it, but I just pulled it off and figured it wasn't a big deal. When I hooked it up to my charged battery (confirmed 12V with volt meter), it ran for about 10 seconds, then started slowing down again and just cut off. It does the same thing in reverse and forward, in all gears.
My only thought was that maybe the fishing line that was wound around the prop caused the motor to overheat and burn out. Is there anything else I should check before just buying another one? I don't want to put too much money into it because I can buy another 30lb Minn Kota brand new for under $100. Thanks...
