I have a 87 Glastron with a 3.0 4 cylinder Mercury engine. I am having problems starting it....I have replaced the plugs, wires, rotor, condensor, coil and cleaned the points on the distributor. I disconnected the main wire leading from the coil to the middle of the distributor cap and placed it next to part of the block to see if I could get a spark and there was nothing....I am very stumped and any help would be great, thanks.

Is there power to the pos. side of the coil?
does the rotor turn when the motor is cranked?
try removing the tach wire from the coil.(gray wire)

Check the timing gear. My 88 3.0l slipped the timing gear last year. Gave me the same symptoms. The metal hub in the gear turned inside the fiber gear. It was hard to see but if you have a manual you can see how the gears are supposed to line up. If they are not than you have a timing problem.

Why are you replying to a 2005 thread??????
