So I had black oil leaking out of the lower end of my 87 force 125hp where it buts up to the upper end.Taking the lower end off I discovered the water tube had oil all over it and the oil was dripping from the inside of the water tube.Could this be a seal prob ?or do I have to lift the whole head off I could use some help .Thanks

Im pretty new to this site but I do own a 89 force outboard 125 and if I had this
prob. then I would check my thermostat for signs of oil, remove spark plugs do a
compression check on all cylinders check plugs for milky oil to try and rule out a
blown headgasket. You didn't mention if the oil smells like gas or gear oil? I bet
someone else will jump on here and have some better advice.

The oil doesn't really that strong of a smell, just black .I checked the gear oil and it was clear as I just changed it recently I looked up the mid section where the drive shaft fit and lookes like a gasket or some sealent hanging. Have to try to pull a piece down to see if it is . It kind of looks ribbed but I can't really see that well. I will check the thermostat tomarrow.

Could be the lower seal on the crank is bad. Did you notice it up in where the drive
shaft plugs in or someplace else?

I talked to a mech and he said the oil leak is most likely a build up of oil since the exhaust is tied in together .Plus I forgot i had squirted some transmission oil in the cylinders to help free them up and I had it only out once this season so far.

Sounds good to me. The extra oil need to come out someplace and could have been picked back up in the water inlet. That would explain the oil leaking back out the pick up tube.
