Owner says it's a 78 Northcraft. From the research I have done they got bought out in the early 70's. Comes with a 40hp Merc that the owner states only need a new gasket between the upper and lower. What do the experts think? Is this a potential nightmare??

Nope, but...But IMHO it's not worht $750 either. I paid $250 for my 15' Lonestar Boat, Motor, Trailer with a 40hp Evinrude and it ran. I'd offer 1/2 the price and see what happens. I've got about $2K in mine so far.

I'd check to see if that motor is on the NLA parts list first.

We all know prices are regional and stuff is more expensive in the frozen Great White North, so it may be a good deal for you.

No worries on parts for the Merc. I have a source for Merc Parts all the way back to the 40's!!! If you get her and need Parts let me know. JIG's right about the price difference up there though. Maybe $750 is the equivalent of $250 down here. I don't know.

Thanks WOG. That's kind of what I had in mind. Maybe 3 -400 or so.

Wow, thanks Jig. I never thought about the availability of parts. I haven't had an outboard since the early 80's. But if WOG can find the parts I guess I could take a chance.
