It looks good. I don't have an opinion for you on the floor. You already did the cedar though 8)

Re: project boat..progress pics..08/31/06

I have made some pretty good progress in the last weeks. All the interior pieces are installed to check for fit and will weigh the rig tomorrow with it installed. They will be comming back out to do the electric and plumbing. Also picking up and installing motor tomorrow and will take to lake to see how it handles with this layout. Thanks

That's what I love about this site - you get to see what's going on outside of your own thoughts and ideas. I wouldn't have even thought about using 1x6 cedar as opposed to plywood. I'm not sure which is best, but it wouldn't have even occurred to me. Same with the galvanized angle iron for the interior framing.

Looks like the project is coming along nicely.

That thing should move pretty briskly with an 85 horse on it. Tiller steering at 45 mph, can't say I would want to do it...d:)

OK...got it weighed before motor installed. From the factory that model was shipped out at between 700 and 725 pounds( per Starcraft). Mine weighed in at 691 pounds. The only things missing in my weigh-in is the wiring, seats, and the skin for the splashwell. I should be right on or just a few pounds over when completed. That worked out pretty good considering my boat has much more installed in it compared to the factory. I also took it to the lake today for a test run. I have no tach hooked up and its a small lake (52 acres) so I didnt go too nuts. I did open it up a few times for a few seconds. I added about 200 pounds throughout the boat to simulate a trolling motor/battery, fuel tank, ect. It planes almost instantly. I got it to 44.8 mph (gps). When twisted up from half throttle to full....its like a rocket...throws your head back and pins you to the seat. If there was water to go faster....i would of...It was still climbing, but shore was aproaching rather quickly and I had no tach. It handled awesome. straight, smooth, level, accurate. I have never operated a tiller that big, and didnt intend to put one that large on it....But I am glad I did. It actually steers easier than the last boat I had which had a 30 Yamaha tiller. I think the weight of the motor/length of the tiller arm makes the steering much more solid and smooth. The tiller handle is a little longer than I expected so I will have to rethink the position of the operators seat (and install a grab handle..:^ )

Fuel tank installed. I decided to put in a bow tank to move some weight forward because of the big outboard. Had to do some rework to get it to fit. A few more weekends (and more $$$) and the bow will get closed up for good.
