Well lets see. Brought the camera and forgot to get it out of the truck.

Got it all setup and backed into water was able to start the Force 1 turn 1 start yea.

Well I put the handle back and for some reason it was not leaving the trailer. I was kinda puzzeled by this. hmmm I tried the handle forward boat backs smoothly off trailer. :) Wierd I did replace the controller. Gotta fix that.

Was backing straight out and then I stood up and the engine stalled. UH-OH! Darn turn key and nothing happens. Drifting to middle of launch area but lucky no boat was there. :D Boat but people were watching. Threw the line to wife on the dock she pulls me over to dock. Ah see the kill switch fell out. This has no string YET! Is very old and the person who had the boat cut it and just put it on the switch. Put this back on no no start movement only click from choke selinoid!!!
Remove cover from motor and fiddle around thinking yes I (we) replaced controller is the Neutral swich ok? I go back the the controler and notch it back and forth Woot motor starts!

Back boat out after loading family. Seems strange in the handleing dept. In going forward find out I have the steering rack upside down or something. Man it does get better. SO now I have the controller backwards and the steering is backwards.
Oh well lets see what it can do.
As we motored out I almost got a bouy. Missed as I steered to it and went around it.

Wow got the motor up and trimmed drove for about an hour seems cool will fix the Steering and controller later.

Was going to dock or just lay up on the beach and let the kids out nope to shallow. So I put boat in reverse and it goes but the motor is not responding to throttle. OH man what else so I look at the motor we are still idleing back out of mud had me worried as I thought we might get stuck there and no power to boot. So I got it idleing back towards the dock I take off the motor cowling. The darn fuel pump has sprung a gas leak. No the screws came a we bit loose. I made the mistake of letting my brother replace the fuel pump and told him to not tighten the Plastic screen cover to tight. He did all the screws semi tight but there were 2 with nuts on the reverse that vibrated loose. I took a screwdriver and tighten it as best I could and fixed it temporarily. We had revered the throttle so I though the butterflies should be open at WOT but they are not in reverese so He did not tighten the nut up to tight on the throttle linkage. Now I am able to idle back to the dock thats over 45 minutes away at full throttle.
I got a brilliant Idea ask the wife to hold the throttle WOT so we can get back! What a First Mate!

We get back to the dock and am able to get us docked and everyone off the boat. 4 Park Rangers in 2 boats are now really watching me! They just launched thier boats and are going to inspect people out on the lake. Man was I worried. I could not get the horn to work and the backup was at home along with the fire extinguisher. They will not ever be left again I got some holders for them. No here I am the cowling is off and I am letting the engine idle at the dock. My wife is now watching the boat and I go get the truck.

What a load I did. I had idle and forward and reverse and thats it!
My wife told me after I got the boat on in 1 try and almost to the post that the guy with the bass boat took 2 tries she was impressed. He was next to us. I squeezed as close to him so If I needed I could drga the boat to the trailer with the rope.

At least I did not forget the plug.
Cause the bildge pumps not in yet!

So what I hear you saying is you had a blast on the water today with the family! Don't expect every outing to be this fun.

Glad you got back OK. :) Give us an update and some pics after you get the bugs worked out. And don't forget to yell at your bro for messing ALL that stuff up. :D

that's great! You'd do it again in a seconf though, wouldnt you! I remember the first time i went out, i didnt vent the tank. A tow in, 1 busted fuel tank and two torn fuel pumps from the suction. the joys of boat ownership. cheers

Your lucky you didn't get someone in your family killed with that fuel leak and no safety equipment. Maybe you should have took the boat out for the first run after doing the work without the family. Did you at least think to bring the life jackets?

YES we were lucky. If the throttle cable had not come undone right then I nor anybody else would not have known that the fuel pump was loose and leaking.

I was wanting to get to the water and the boats not completly done so things are not in the boat on a permanent basis such as the fire extinguisher. I had flares on board and the paddles too.

I just got a new fire extinguisher that has a bracket today! 5.00 at the marine dealer here could not pass it up. So now there are 2. Will not be going again for at least a few weeks maybe a month or more till it really done.

Yes we all had life jackets on. There were no problems till we were 15 feet from shore! And the wife had a bucket and I could have either had the kids and her jump to shore and me fight the fire with the bucket or just let it burn! I did have a few tools on board. :) I could have rebuilt the thing on the water but did not have the screw that was lost but only the 1 that did not fall out. I just got 4 new screws and nyloc nuts to be extra safe.

While I was a little premature we all lived and thats the only thing that counts. The boat can be repurchased about any day on E-bay. If I want to work that hard again :)

Re: Project long haul first launch

Glad to hear you got back safe. I think I would not have taken the whole family out for the trial run though. I learned a lot of lessons last season, and would not think of going back on the water without all my safety equipment. As a matter of fact, my revised pre-launch checklist is so big, I probably lost 10 mph because of all my sh*t! LOL I am still waiting for the weather to break so i can get back out for some trial runs. I have 6 months of work screaming to go boating!! I also have a full systems checklist made to refer to now, at least for the first run. I know this all sounds redundant and anal, but I learned very quickly that when you are on the water, you are on the water. If you didnt bring it or dont have it, your screwed, your not going to get it. Your on your own out there, be prepared.

But as was stated already, it was probably a blast, and if it were me, I'd do it all over again without hesitation!

Hey Realgun, glad everything turned out OK. I can understand your excitement to get on the water after all that work but you forgot the most important thing. Safety first. All those issues were serious and you put yourself, your family and others in danger. Would you take your car out on the freeway with the steering not working correct ? Should have put the boat back on the trailer and double checked everything in dry dock first. You have a very understanding wife by the way :D :D

Sounds like karma to me, Real, when you go around saying condescending things like this to people:

"You unscrewed from the bottom of the transom, correct? Thats the thing on the back of the boat thats flat."
