Re: Project Skanky Beast done
Yeah, I built the console out of 1/2 inch ACX coated with a ton of white polyurethane paint. There is no livewell, it is battery access and storage under the forward seat that is part of the console. The other seating aft is also just storage with a pivoting backrest. I catch and release, I do not keep the fish, so I saw no need to go through the extra expense and weight. The main reason I built the console out of 1/2 inch ply was I needed some weight forward, I knew I would have trim issues with not enough weight forward. Also, I could not find any glass consoles in the width I wanted without being way too expensive or too big in other dimensions. I needed a 35 inch width, and any I found were too tall, or too long, or too expensive, and too light. This has worked fine. I am not worried about moisture damage, I take too good of care of the boat, and also if the console ever does develop moisture problems, I can build another one. I did the whole console with two 4x8 sheets of ply, not a lot of cash. One a side note, the white seating cushions are temporary, I will be having proper seat cushions and backrests made to match the forward bow cushions, I just wanted to use the boat this season. I also will be building a casting seat into the bow seating area, and also mounting a bow-mount foot controlled electric motor. That is the plan for Spring. The hull will also get its paint job as well, it will become white throughout, with gray cushions and I will leave the floor gray.
