I've gone Nuts  Plans are to take this 88 21'Trophy I/O convert into twin O/B with a wheelchair ramp on the oversized custom built engine platform, this will not be a bolt on, rather fully intergrated to the new stinger system & open floor plan i've got in mind and on paper. Well told you'll i had gone nuts ;) give me your thoughts P.S. all this so i can take sis & a good friend of mine For Boat ride http://members.fishingworks.com/jomac/

jomac,

A VERY interesting, and might I add-noble, cause.

Just a thought, have you considered installing a davit hoist on the cockpit floor? It would involve beefing up the stringers in the mounting area, but not nearly as extensive as you are thinking.

I saw one a while back on a small sportfisher that was used for precisely the same purpose. It was 12 volt powered and was a standard job as seen on many utility trucks. Just the arm had been extended for a greater reach.

It was mounted to one side (starboard as I recall) and it would swing (arm) forward along side the cockpit while underway. Pretty slick.

Someone that knew the owner said it wa a one man operation for the owner (handicapped) to hoist himself and his chair aboard.

Re: Project Wheelchair access

Thanks wayne got your e-mail saved, i may need some help with tie-downs for her chair & ramp parts. Modifying the boat is nothing(other than the funds) making it safe, dependable and stable enough for loading&unloading a wheelchair in various conditions will be my main concern! will try to post drawings of the ramp setup, to get your thoughts on it and any ideas you may have, thanks again :) Later!
