You can see by my signature that I have a 18' Ranger Bass boat. Johnson GT 150. I had an aluminum 14.5x23 prop on it. I had also a Turbo Stainless 14.4x24 as my backup. I switched them. The difference was major: Hole shot, up on plane...this seemed more than the normal talk of Aluminum flexing. The aluminum prop had some dings in it so I took it back to be repaired and installed it today.

I noticed first of course that the hole shot was not there. I would go as far to say 25% less. Also..when I trim up. With my stainless I could trim up to about 3/4 and I would get the rooster tail just fine. With the reworked prop now when I go above half way the revs increase. The bite is at a totally different place than the stainless.

Is this normal?

The important thing is RPMs at WOT. You want the motor to run within recommended RPMs.

Yep you took a very well designed prop and put it in the hands of a hack, next time try to understand why the local guru doesnt have his or her's own prop company.......;)

If you mean the place messed up the prop, it is the local Marina that hands the broken props off to another place that repairs props for all the boat dealers in the 2 Metropolitan area.

Sorry I missed the forum. When I did a search on props I noticed the forum I looked in had it in the Engine Repair.

what you are seeing the the performance benifits of a stainless steel prop (turbo being one of the best too!)

Going from a stock aluminum to a Turbo stainless I had the same experiance. I can barely even get half trim and I blow out like crazy on turns with the stock aluminum now which is ok since its the "get me back to the dock prop" now. The Turbo stainless will trim until my boat starts to porpose and I don't need to trim in at all turning.

I like the performance of the stainless...however I more prefer the safeness of the aluminum.

Last Question. Is there a prop that can give me both. Like a higher performance Aluminum Prop anyone might suggest?

Hustler.....I think I bought it from iboats. Has high rake, ports, cupped, replaceable hub. Didn't work for me, but might for you. The reason it didn't probably has nothing to do with your situation so don't get hung up on it......I was stepping down from a H Perf SS.

You know that is exactly what I did. I did the best research I could...I did find turningpoint props...then I saw Iboats...remembering the forum I just ordered one. Not bad on the pricing either. $116.6 to the door. We'll see how I make out.

Note to be fair the readers. Most all prop places allow you to return the prop if it doesn't fit; however, not once you put it in the water. There is a turningpoint dealer that will. The cost with shipping is 30.00 more for the same prop. I put my money into iboats due to the forum.

It's 3:30 here and I can't sleep so I was thinking about props of course. What I haven't seen covered..and it might be a known fact..yet I'm learning still. Is this:

The performance of a stainless seems to be a major difference yet with the price that you run the risk of damaging your lower end. Which of course could be covered by insurance; however, so what I don't want to blow the lower end or damage my motor. That leaves me with selecting a different prop such as an aluminum.

So, by the using the tilt and trim and watching the rpm's to maximize performance, the two different props are almost like personalities. They are handled differently via the throttle and the trim.

Thank you for all your help..those that did help. I'm luck enough in life that what I can do is just play and spend $116.60 to see if it works and if it doesn't..oh well. I'll post a review of the prop once I get it...should be around July 16th.

Remenicing: That stainless prop is so awesome. My speedo only goes to 60mph since I replaced it..and the boat punches past that in a major way. I boat down at Long Level in Wrightsville, PA. There was alittle wave there...I felt the boat pitch down going into the wave..and instinctively I punched the throttle...out of the water the boat came and jumped. Yeah yeah..dangerous..but it was just on the river..but man do I ever like that prop.
