Prop and hub question

I have an Evinrude 40hp 1964 outboard. The hub went out on my prop. It was one of those hardened rubber hubs. I'm looking to replace the prop and hub together. My question is can I use any hub or does it have to be one of those rubber kind? Thanks in advance!

Re: Prop and hub question

I think the idea of the rubber hub is that you can get a prop strike and it will have less effect or potential damage on the prop shaft.

I too had a wonky rubber hub when I bought my outboard second hand. Replaced with a new prop and new rubber hub. So far so good.

Re: Prop and hub question

You can have it rehubbed and refurbished if necessary at a prop shop. If you try a do it yourself be sure you use the correct hub.

I just had one for a 20 hp Johnson re-hubbed two weeks ago.So far so good. $25, alot cheaper than a new one.
