Pretty sure I'm a lil under propped after messing with motor height. I have a yamaha 15 hp 4 stroke and was hitting about 5900 rpms trimmed all the way up before moving motor up but now with it trimmed to the second hole from all the way down im maxing 5900 where as before moving it up it was about 5600 rpms and trimming the motor up anymore I'm going over wot range. I'm running a tp hustler 9x10 and they dont offer a 9x11 so I have a OEM 9.25x11 prop coming. Should I be trying to hit the wot range trimmed all the way up or would it be fine to run it where it's at now?

How did you come to purchase the Hustler, and that particular pitch? Does it have a hole under the leading edge of each blade on the side of the barrel?

I assume you don't have power trim and are talking about positioning the tilt pin in the clamp bracket. When you say you are at 1 hole up, I am taking that to mean that the tilt pin is inserted 1 hole above the closest hole to the transom.

Assuming everything cooperates with your decision.....like your boat load is properly positioned, the engine has enough HP to propel the boat to a reasonable speed for what you are trying to achieve, and to a point...maxing out the performance type action as you move the tilt pit farther from the transom, the thrust of the prop causes the bow to rise and in doing so, reduces the drag between the hull and surface allowing for more speed. Since there is a relationship between prop rotation and speed for a given setup, this allows the engine to rev higher.

Most everyone recommends not going over the max. recommended RPMs under the lightest load conditions and best engine trim angle. When that happens you don't have enough "bite" with the prop meaning you need to increase the pitch...which will pull the RPMs down and "should" propel the boat faster....with a slightly slower "hole shot"....getting up on plane.

The number kicked around here is 150-200 RPM per inch of change.

You may be ok where you are. When you push it out too far, without having power trim where you can vary the tilt as a function of boat speed, you will wind up with a bow high condition at WOT, sluggish hole shot, and porpoising....where the bow of the boat bounces up and down.....a condition that is only corrected by moving load forward, speeding up, or decreasing the tilt angle.

Pretty sure it was when I was looking into stainless steel props when I found about turning point hustler and used their prop wizard and got the 9x10. My tp hustler don't have the holes tho. Thinking it was maybe too choppy that day cause I was able to tilt it all the way up and stayed under 6k. I put the oem 9.25x11 on and gonna run it and see how she does. With the wot throttle range should you go for the middle or the upper/lower range??? My 1436 is loaded in the front with 2 batteries a deck and bow mount trolling motor since it's just me and having an older 25hp on it before. Appreciate the response sir

HP (torque x RPMs)/5252. HP is what propells the prop shaft that twists the prop that develops the thrust to drive your boat. Recalling, other than a few engines that came out with high cubes in the Bass Boat arena some years ago (from 2kcc to 2.5kcc in a 150 hp engine...Mercury), a lot (most) 2 strokers get 1 hp/cubic in.or more. That isn't saying much for the cubic inches in the design. Sooooo if one wants HP they have to get the ponies running.......I prop for top of the line at WOT with my normal load....me, gas, and tackle, and sometimes over.

...like I had an '88 Merc I6 Tower of Power on a bass boat and it ran 6k every time I had the space and water condition to turn it loose. It wasn't rated for that but it seemed to love it. I could hear it singing and listening closely you could hear the prop blades beating the water...humming....great sport. I don't have anything to do. I can't do my hay because my fields are flooded, ran out of fixing things that were broken or needing servicing with my farm equipment...just checked the local lake and the ramps are closed due to flooding from 4 months of nothing but rain, I bought about 20 750 piece picture puzzles and am on my second round of working the same ones over again. Forgive me.
