My stock two-blade prop is more than a little chewed up, and I am considering a Propco 3-blade replacement. Can anyone give me advice as to size/pitch considerations? Also would like some input concerning prop brands...The Propco goes for $64.95 at Bass Pro Shop...

Thanks

*edit*--I looked at the iboat propfinder, and it was some help, but from the choices given it wasn't really informative as to the benefits of 3-blade opposed to two or pitch considerations. I know that a higher pitch can put more stress on an engine, but my prop pitch experience is aircraft related...

Iboats always offers propellers at favorable prices, but not for the smaller motors. I would look for a composite propeller for a 6 HP, its light, at a favorable price, has no paint problems, and you can get a 3 blade.

Riehle,

Your current two blaade prop is probably a weedless design. The blades on it wrap around.

The three blade will work fine, yet you will give up some of your weedless capability.

Thanks for the replies...I was aware that in almost all cases a two blade would be more efficient than a three for the size of engine and application, and yes DJ, the current prop is a weedless prop, but I'm curious about advances in the technology in the last thirty years since my motor was made and if there's something better than replacing it with an identical prop.

I realize that it won't make much difference in a six horse motor, but has there been no changes in prop design recently?
