I have a 2007 Tahoe 228 with 5.0L Fuel inj, Bravo 1. Current prop is stock merc 19 pitch. I can over tach by 200 RPM under normal load. Hole shot is just okay. I would like to gain a little on hole shot. Would a 4 Blade prop help?

Re: Prop choice

Tyndem, if you will give me your WOT RPM and GPS speed I can help you.

Re: Prop choice

The preset alarm sounds around 5000RPM, trimming the boat obtains to 5250 RPM. Speed is 49 to 51 MPH.

Re: Prop choice

Haven't had much input since my last posting, so I purchased a Solas Amitra 4 Blade 14.5 X 17 aluminum prop. Tried it this weekend. What a difference in performance. With 6 adults in the boat and two 100+ children in a tub, the holeshot was incredable. The boat handled exceptionally well in all aspects, cavatating only slightly in the tightess of turns. Excellent handling throughout the RPM range. Forgot to try topend with all eight aboard. I did some experimenting with just two adults (normally my wife and I). The boat planed almost immediately. Lost about 2 MPH @ 3200 RPM (now 27 instead of previous 29 with a 3 blade 19 pitch) and continued incremental loss up to 4800RPM where I stopped increasing, don't know where it would max out. My top speed at 4800 RPM was 41 MPH (all by GPS). A great prop for such a low price of $100.00. I think I may purchase a 19 pitch, since it will mostly be just two people onboard.

I hope this helps anyone else with selecting a reasonably priced prop. Welcome any comments.

Re: Prop choice

Unfortunately H has been very busy with the oil spill.
We have seen very good results with the Solas Amita 4 blade. It will lose a little top end though.
It should plane easier and stay on plane with less power.low speed control at the dock should be better.A 19 should help the speed if the motor can spin it up.
I assume the 4800 was throttled back a little?

Re: Prop choice

Yes, it was throttled back. I think I could probably get 300-400 RPM higher.
