I have a 96 evinrude 115 hp with 90 degree heads
On a 24 ft pontoon boat

When I put it in reverse, my engine comes out of the water. So whatever locking mechanism that is supposed to be in place to prevent this, is not working. I'm putting my boat in the water today. Any quick advice on what to look at to try to fix it? I'm not very Savvy with boat lingo, so if you offer advice, please try to explain things in simple terms. Much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I could not see that link on my phone . I will look at it later tonight on my computer.

Yes it has power trim. It raises fine, fast and smooth. It lowers great the 1st half of the way, but then it sounds and moves slowly, like maybe it's struggling. Is this normal? If not, could this be related to my reverse problem? Or is it maybe a separate problem?

The tilt portion moves much faster than the trim portion, and the sound will change. Air in the system will affect sound too, and can allow the engine to lift. Run the system completely up and down several times and then check fluid level. How to do it should be in the section of the book in the link

It sounds normal if it's only lifting when you apply too much power in reverse, try reversing in a more gentle manner.
