I'm wondering about the interchangability of these props. If each prop has the same # splines, diameter and pitch can they be used as sustitutes for each other ? Is there a cross reference available anywhere ?

What about diameter of splined hole,(Shaft diameter) or lenght of spline, so prop tightens up on shaft.

The Michigan Wheel web site has an excellent PDF interchange that gives you all teir prop numbers, and many of the prop numbers are the same for different engine. On many even the same exchangable hub kits fits different motors, but using the original thrust washer.

We interchange the V6 style props all the time. Most race props have a Merc hub. Its a direct fit on a Yamaha with some thrust washer changing. If you shorten the splines it'll fit an Evin/John.

The Cobra / Volvo units have a different spline count so a rehub is necessary.

What props are you trying to interchange?

I use Merc props on my 200 Rude...
It requires a different thrust washer and 2 splined washers at the rear, then the nut.
As for changing between Yammy and Merc it shouldn't be an issue...the Honda has the Merc L.U., so I would guess (I don't know for sure) those props would fit too.

Re: Prop compatibility - Merc, Yamaha, Honda

Thanks for the info. I have a 40hp Mariner and am trying to find a lower pitched (13") prop. I have come across several good deals on Yamaha props of the "same" configuration (ie same diameter, pitch, #splines) and was wondering if they are interchangable. What about shaft diam or any other differences ? From what I have seen so far it LOOKS like they can be swapped but I'd like to know for sure before buying one.

This is actually a "merc" mariner model 1992 year. Still the same ? $35.00 for an "as new" condition prop sounds like a good deal to me. Yes ? No ? I'm not look for high performance, just a slightly lower pitch than my current 15".

Thats a great deal if its ss. Its still good if it is indeed "as new" and an aluminum prop.
