05 Yamaha F100, standard prop.
Is this damage serious? the gash is about 9/16-5/8 in. deep/ 16mm.
will it be ok to bend the gashed peice back to shape with a small adjustable spanner, or will this type of damage cause caviatation or vibration that will affect the prop shafts bearings for example.

If you attempt to bend that back it will break off. Damage of that sort needs to be gently and progressively tapped back into shape then welded. send it out to a prop shop or buy another prop and use that one as an emergency spare.

I have a good friend the does prop rebuilding and I visit for coffee about 2 to 3 times a week to see whats what.strictly for example lets say a new prop is 160.rebuilt is 85 lets say .many people go for the rebuild.prices may be way off, im not really to knowegable about exact charges .what I do know is he rebuilds a heck of a lot of props and they look and run like brandnew.but yes do your homework and also never hurts to have a spare and also a spare kit as it does no good to have a spare prop if you loose everything else and don't have it(the dreaded I forgot to put the cotterpin in disaster).

I would think that could be fixed. Have the propeller repair person look at it and see what they think. If it looks like the propeller posted below it would be totally shot.

Re: prop damage: can this be fixed?

thanks for all the good replies. There are no prop repair shops where I live so I am intending on getting a new genuine yamaha prop via ebay.
13x19-K which is what is on the boat now. F100AETL.
I have bent the piece carefully back, it did break, however it hasn't fallen off. 2 of 3 blades are just a little deformed. 1 is like new.
