Reasons for a spare along with wrench
Reasons for a spare along with wrench
hello all -last Sunday going at 2000 RPMS in my 3.0 merc it sounded like we hit a rock. It was a pretty scarier sound. All 3 blades on the prop were really torn up. I noticed when testing the drive after the hit the boat took longer with higher RPMS to get on plane. But it did eventually get on plane. Is the poor performance now due to the severely damaged prop? I have a spare to put on tommorow.
SHOULD NEVER---NEVER go WOT with a damaged prop.
When one fin of the prop gets dinged it throws the prop out of balance and can damage the motor and everything that the motor is attached to. With all three dinged a whole lot worse.
It is not difficult to change out a prop while on the water. Just be sure that you don't drop the nut or anything else.
Practice while the boat is on the trailer, in a parking lot NOT AT THE RAMP.

Just get in the boat and act like you are on the water. Be sure the motor OFF, Trim the motor up, and lean over the stern and practice.
