i have a 1979 Canadian built 9.8 hp.

i have the prop off to have it repaired and thought i would buy a backup.

on the outside of the prop - 8P A1
on the spline - 48-87572-8 maybe 48-8.75 72-8

it has 8 splines.

any ideas on what these mean?

Re: prop decipher?

Canadian built 9.8 HP WHAT? But the number 48-87572-8 is a Mercury P/N. The 8P is likely 8 pitch. If you want the same prop, use the part number and head to your Merc dealer. If you don't want to do business with them, click the picture of the PROP at the top of this page. Click on Mercury, enter the data and you will be presented with a list of props for your engine.

Re: prop decipher?

I too am looking for the same prop. I have tried many sites and have not found one. I believe the prop is a 8" and all I can find is 9" or more. I don't think a 9" will fit or it will be so close that I am worried that it might hit the plate above it. If someone knows where I can find one please let me know

Have you both tried calling the shops that Google listed? If you have and nobody caries it, then you'll likely be left with trying ti find a used one.

Good luck!
