Most are right hand, that is they turn clockwise (prop blade moves to the right at the top) and counter clockwise in reverse.

Most use right hand rotation; referred to as "standard" rotation.

Bigger(V-6) outboards and stern drives are available in counter rotating(left hand)versions.

What kind of power package do you have?

Re: prop direction going forward and reverse

on my 2002 Suzuki 40 there is just a high/up, middle/neutral, low/down movement to the shift rod when removing a lower unit I always made sure the shifter was in the highest position to allow ease of making connections. depending on where your linkage connects, if its in neutral or fully down position it may be much harder to make the connections or not at all.

true, harder to connect on some of those positions.
