Prop for 25hp Evinrude???

I pulled off my prop today on a recently purchased 25 hp evinrude and to my surprise no shear pin but a splined shaft and prop. What's the advantage and disadvantage of this set up compared to a prop with a shear pin. The prop is marked 9 x 10 315084 and now I'm nervous and want to get a back up prop. Where might I find one and what can I expect to pay for one used. Thanks for the help.

hello.<br />You are just fine with the spline prop.There are only a few tens of millions of happy boaters with a spline prop.<br />As far as getting a spare prop is concerned.That is a good idea in any case.
