So I'm trying to buy a prop for my parent's pontoon boat and really could use some help, it is a 1992 Sun Tracker Party Barge 24'. I believe the motor is a 1992 though we can't fully make out the model # to know for sure. It's a Johnson Tracker 40 hp, 2 cylinder with oil injection. My elderly father unfortunately misplaced the prop that came with the boat, so we are unsure what to get. I realize rpms, pitch, etc. all come into play to take stress off the motor but the boat isn't used for any kind of towing and they aren't interested in going at a max speed. It's rare for them to ride with more than 6 people on board and a moderate speed to get back to shore in the event a thunderstorm comes up quickly is really about all they need. I've researched and the motor has an RPM range of 4500 - 5500 if that helps. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It is found by measuring from the centre of the propeller boss to the tip of one blade and then doubling the result. Pitch is the forward distance that a propeller would theoretically travel in a single rotation if there were no slip present – imagine a screw being driven into a piece of wood.

That unfortunately is part of the problem, there is no prop to measure so we can match what originally came with the motor, it has been misplaced.
