I know this topic has been brought up before, but I have an 87 sea ray seville with the merc 3.0 alpha one. I just got the boat, used, and with it is a 19 pitch and a 17 pitch. I liked the way the 4 blade Comprop sounded,(always wanted to try it on my other boats) but I went with the Michigan wheel 4 blade in a 20 pitch.. Someone said I messed up and should have gotten the 18 pitch... I just want a good all around prop, for decent top end and for pulling a knee board, tube or someone sking on 2 skis..the 19 pitch seems good all around and they say the 4 blades give a better holshot, so I thought the 20 pitch would be good. I also have a hydrofoil, and it planned fast with the 19 pitch. any info would be appreciated....

Re: prop for mec 3.0 alpha one

I have found solutions are really a slow process. With that said you might want to take a close look at trim tabs, they really do offer a very basic solution to correcting any overall hull, engine design compromise's.

A 3.0 is a very effective cost solution for boat mfg's, it really lacks tourqe, which brings into play hull effiency, the quicker it gets onto plane and the correct balance of weight seems to be a key factor.

For whatever reason these tabs seem to balance the overall weight distrubtion. Allowing a low tourqe motor to acheive quick rpm's, getting it into it's prime powerband, and then one can select a prop that enhances all of the above described BS................ ;)
