I'm looking to buy a new prop for my 150 Johnson. was looking at buying a raker prop, they also make the raker II but it is about two hundred more, whats the differance and is it worth the extra money, does it give more hole shot or more top in or is it just a stronger prop, thanks for the help

Re: Prop Help

Raker promotion says "fast fast fast, special cupping for bow lift and top end, vent holes for acceleration".
Users say Raker ll is more aggresive requiring about a 2" reduction in pitch. Raker is longer lasting"better grade of metal"
Generally a prop intended for speed and bow lift may struggle with hole shot though vent holes should temper that.
I think also if a person was inclined to run on the low end of planing speed the Raker may be more difficult to control
speed.

Re: Prop Help

thanks for the info. I've been out of town for a few days and I wasn't able to check to see if anyone responed. I have a raker 14 1\2 X 22 that has great hole shot but at top end it showed 57 on gps but the rmp was just over 6000, and i dont want to hurt the motor running it that high, I would like to go up in pitch, from what you know would the raker II 14 1\2 x 24 be to much, the motor is a 2002 johnson 150 and its on a triton 180, 1999 model, thanks for your help!

Re: Prop Help

Just going by the rule of thumb A 24 should drop the rpm by 300 to 400.
Your slip seems a little high at 15%. I can't speak to the Raker but usually about 10% would be high normal.
Though there are some that run higher. Is your prop a little tired or dinged up?
It would seem that a cupped prop wouldn't have high slip.
Perhaps one of the gurus will be along with more specific info.
