Howdy,

Well, this is a prop question in an I/O forum.....Maybe a Mod will move it for you.

And essentially, YES. that prop does have a "hub" if you want to call it that. There's basically a rubber "donut" inside that absorbs torque pulses and shock due to prop-strikes.

It's intended to isolate the inner splined "hub" from the metal prop. You should be able to see it if you turn the prop over. Also, a propeller repair shop can replace that rubber inner "hub" on most props if it's "spun".

A lot of newer design props have (user) removable/replaceable hubs. Some props are all metal to metal (Mercruiser Bravo III)

Sorry for the wrong category.

Do you know if I can purchase a newer style prop for this boat so I can replace this hub myself in the future, should I need to? I have searched online but only show this style prop for the year/ model of boat. Its a 76 Harris Flotbote OMC 990236M

Those replaceable hub type props are certainly available for a whole bunch of newer OB and I/O engines but you would have to probably talk to a prop-shop or a manufacturer of those replaceable hub type props to see if they make them for older engines and drives.

They might not.

It would be good to have a spare prop in case you bang up your prop but you don't usually have to replace hubs.

Re: Prop Hub

That sure looks like an old Chrysler 18 spline thrust pin prop. The splines drive the prop and the thrust pin put through the two holes in the hub and a hole in the propshaft locates it on the propshaft. The thrust pin is held in place by the screw-on tailcone.

Hubs are not available for them. New props are not available. New old stock and used are sometimes available on ebay but they can be pricey.

You can not easily replace it with newer props. You are limited to that particular style.

Searching online on Ove.rtons I see they only offer 2 props a 14 and 16 pitch but for both the description shows
"Michigan Wheel 3-Blade Propeller, Pressed Rubber Hub"
