OK,
I removed a prop with the number 48-78118-17 on it. I checked michigan wheel and nothing came back. But this looks to me to be a 3 blade, 14 1/4 dia, 17 pitch prop. I want to replace it with a stainless steel, 14 1/4 17 pitch. Will this work.

The current prop, which is all beat up, will push the boat about 32 miles an hour. Thats at 3900 to 4000 rpm. At 4200 rpm it will go almost 34.

I don't want to go down in pitch, figure that will be worthless, but if I go up to 18-19, will I get more top end. Go faster? Or will even a degree or two bog down the engine? I am getting ready to do a full tune up, maintenance, etc. I am thinking that it will even out?

Last thing is, right now the hole shot is not great, Don't do a lot of skiing, but when I do we all suck. So I really can't afford to lose any pick up. Any advice, stay with a 14 1/4 17 but change to stainless, or go up a pitch? I would like a little more top end if it won't change take off speed.
Thanks

Re: Prop Info Ordering today

I wish that were the case but the Seloc book and the plate on the engine both say WOT 3800-4200. Remember it's a 1980. I know newer engines run higher but mine was not set up that way.

I talked with a couple other people and they all suggest staying with the same size, but what I think I am going to do is buy one 17 and one 19. I want a spare and might as well have a different size.

Thanks

WR
